1. US Congressman Trey Gowdy
This man has got quite the skill set for discussion and debate. I first learnt of him about four years ago through a referral on YouTube. He became quite the GoTo guy about the incident at the US embassy in Bhengazi; the one related to the enquiry about Hilary Clinton’s emails. From there I learnt more about the aspects he is passionate about including his love and respect for the law, his emphatic advocacy for integral table talk, his pursuit and understanding of absolute truth etc.
“Your memo is trumping a Congressional statute. You don’t have the discretion on whether to follow the law or not.”~Trey Gowdy addressing A.G. Eric Holder..
2. Peter Thiel.
I first learnt about Peter from his business relash with Elon Musk, who happens to be up next in the list. Peter is a serial entrepreneur. He angel invested in myriad companies that have made quite the disruption in the tech industry. You remember Osama Bin Laden? Peter was one of the biggest and first investors for the company that helped track the crazy guy’s exact location. Besides that, Peter was one of the first investors for Facebook, Stripe and SpaceX. All these companies have some pornographic money valuations. Since I put it upon myself to make my first million before I turn thirty, Peter makes my list. He is gay- I felt compelled to mention- and that doesn’t change anything. Oh, and he has this thoughtful look at things- something which deserve its own post. Will find time. Just kidding, can’t wait!
“Elite students climb confidently until they reach a level of competition sufficiently intense to beat their dreams out of them. Higher education is the place where people who had big plans in high school get stuck in fierce rivalries with equally smart peers over conventional careers like management consulting and investment banking. For the privilege of being turned into conformists, students (or their families) pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in skyrocketing tuition that continues to outpace inflation. Why are we doing this to ourselves?” ~Peter Thiel, Zero To One
3. Elon Musk
Phew! I will allow myself to sound too assuming and say I identify with this guy in a lotta ways. Where to start? Well, I suppose I should mention that Elon is our best chance to getting to Mars. Men? His journey had a kick start when he co-founded PayPal. You could read a little more about him at your convenience. The best lesson I got from him was the idea of reasoning from the basics. His argument partly hinges on the fact that, whilst logic is absolute, history gives us reason to be suspicious of whatever we have come to know; whatever we label as absolutely logical. How do I identify with him exactly? Exactly!
You probably know the guy from The Blacklist or, if you are a Law Firm tv show person, Boston Legal. I find his real persona awfully different from his behaviorally consistent acting roles so, just to be specific, I count his actor self as my role model.
